Short Story dare 1
Petunia wanted to be a normal possum. A possum with normal sized eyes who could climb trees, but of course she was born with huge eyes and was terrible at climbing trees. Instead she could play the trumpet, that's right the trumpet. Now at this point your probably wondering how a possum could play a trumpet. Well it took two people to play the trumpet. One to blow into the silver lined spout and the other to press the three gold keys on top. Her and her friend Lela would meet every other day and play together. Lela's slightly larger than the ordinary cheeks were good for blowing into the trumpet and Petunia was very quick. Her paws swiftly changed hopping from left to right. This as you may of guessed looked exceedingly hilarious. There was a plump possum blowing into a silver mouth piece and a possum with big eyes who appeared to be playing hopscotch on a trumpet. Last week Lela was on food duty at her house and had to sneak into a pesky humans or the possums word for them the irksome creatures house to get food. Weeks had passed and Lela never came out. She was MIA which means she was good as dead. The irksome's weren't the kindest creatures. Once they caught a possum they would either kill it or keep it as a pet. Petunia would rather die then live with those terrible creatures. Always saying like and um. Without Lela Petunia had no friends. All the other possums had tree climbing contests and they made fun of Petunia for her giant eyes. Well one day changed everyday. One day a skinny possum with normal eyes came around to school. Her name was Anna and everybody wanted to be her friend. She had a loud voice always saying something and her mom was the director of Possums got talent. Possums got talent was the biggest show in the town. Petunia loved possum's got talent. It was a way for her to get away from the worries. People on Possum's Got Talent were different they weren't like the rest. Every night Petunia would dream of going on Possum's Got Talent of her playing the trumpet with Lela. People chanting her name. Petunia sighed that dream was crushed. First off Lela was either dead or being tortured and second it was crazy hard to land an audition, even if you are amazing. Petunia had tuned out. The bell was ringing she rushed out. Music class! Finally the one place where she wasn't just average she was above. She knew the answers to the question the teacher adored her. Time passed so quickly! Soon enough class was over. Lunch. Petunia stayed in to ask the teacher a question. After her question was answered the teacher told her she was welcome to stay. Petunia agreed. She just wished she had someone to play the trumpet in. Right then Anna walked in to Petunia stroking the trumpet. AKWARD. Petunia's cheeks went bright red. Instead of teasing her like everyone else Anna eagerly hurried over and asked Petunia if she played. Petunia nodded slowly. Anna was so skinny! She probably couldn't blow into the huge trumpet. Like she was reading her mind Anna started blowing into the trumpet, the sound came out loud and clear. Petunia was taken aback, how could she blow so loud? Anna broke her trance saying in here booming voice to start playing. Petunia and Anna played beautifully they played classic, jazz, pop, they soared. They were so into the music they didn't even realize everyone from teacher to students were staring at them. Petunia was fully ready to be teased, but instead the room erupted in clapping. What? That night Petunia went to Anna's house. She was starstruck. She was standing next to Melissa Anderson the director of Possums got talent. She tried to stay calm, but she couldn't help blurting out ten questions at a time. Melissa just chuckled and answered all of them. As soon as she finished asking Melissa every possible question she explored Anna's huge house. Everything was sleek and modern and even her nibbling nook was high tech. There was a black keypad with white buttons where you could choose you snack. After you stepped out a white robot arm would clean up. Once Petunia had to use the bathroom and got lost. The toilet had twelve functions on it specific to what you ate. The jewel of the house was the music studio. Unlike the rest of the house the music studio was classic and homely. Brick sound proof walls surrounded the studio with instruments regular size and the giant irksome instruments. They quickly set up and then Anna and Petunia sailed away to better places. Into the world of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis. Like last time when they finished Melissa was at the door clapping. She explained she came to ask them if they wanted snacks. Then they real shock came, Melissa asked them to try out for Possums got Talent. Petunia thought she almost screamed (She actually did scream). Melissa explained she got little say on who gets on the show, but Petunia wasn't really paying attention. Her mind kept replaying try out possum's got talent. That night Petunia couldn't stop thinking about the audition. Anna and Petunia decided to play, "What a wonderful world," by Louis Armstrong. She replayed the song in her head over and over again and drifted into a dreamless sleep. The next morning Petunia's alarm went off at 6, but she was already up. They had decided to wear cardigans and black flats. At 7:00 on the dot Melissa and Anna arrived. Melissa explained how the audition would work. They would get a number (the earlier they went the better) and would play for the judges. They judges could either give them a fast pass straight to the show or they would put them on the wait list. Petunia chewed on her paws, this was going to be hard. They arrived at Possywood and her jaw dropped in awe at the big grand buildings that went up over four feet! They arrived at a modern building where they were to wait. Fortunately the wait wasn't long. Each person was given a number. Melissa and Petunia were up first. Petunia took deep breathes. They were ushered in by a producer. She saw all the 4 judges. Lyda, Sam, Terry, and Hazel. Seeing Petunia's nervous expression Anna pat her on the back. They quickly set up and sailed away. Soon enough they were done. The judges didn't say a word. At first Petunia thought they failed horribly, but seconds later the judges, heck the whole crew erupted in applause. The judges handed them the fast pass. Silent tears rolled down Petunia's cheek. The next two weeks Anna and Petunia practiced anytime they could. The whole town chipped in and even put together enough money to get Petunia and Anna a new trumpet and new outfits. Petunia was confused, all that time she was picked on and bullied nobody helped her, but when she made it on Possum's got talent everyone suddenly wanted to help her. The two weeks they had flew by. Millions of people would be watching Petunia and Anna. They arrived at the same building as last time, but this time they went to the theatre were they recorded the show. Cameras were at every angle. Petunia and Anna were the first arrive since Melissa had to come early. Melissa's assistant Betsy. After touring the amazing set Anna and Petunia waited backstage. By then people had started to arrive. Petunia saw jugglers, people eating fire, comedians, magicians, and more amazing acts. Petunia exhaled, she knew whether they won or lost it was still amazing they got this far. Unlike the auditions they were the last to perform. The first act was a stand up comedian who was amazing. The acts all blurred together and soon enough the stage manager was calling Anna Anderson and Petunia Roberts. They entered the stage. Petunia almost ran backstage, but her feet were glued to the stage. Lyda (who was gorgeous with her flowing gold hair and flawless makeup) asked for there name age and act. Petunia' voice failed her, but Anna came to the rescue. Saying their names (Anna Anderson and Petunia Roberts) their age (6 months 12 in human years), and their act (playing somewhere over the rainbow). They started. Petunia new the notes perfectly. She shut her eyes and blocked out everything else. Soon enough they were done. Petunia eyes lit up! Nobody had tapped out! It was time for there responses. All the judges praised their focus and the beauty of their song. The exited the stage and Petunia Anna started crying tears of joy. The judges announced that the winner was Petunia and Anna. They cried and hugged each other. The town greeted them when they came in. Parties were thrown and everyone celebrated. Petunia and Anna were given 100,000 dollars. They put all there money into starting a foundation that provided instruments for kids who couldn't afford them. Petunia and Anna became a duo and traveled all over the country playing concerts and gigs.
