Hunger Games

This was something I did last summer. You do not need to read this!! It's kind of long... 





This summer I read the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I loved it was very eventful and was a page-turner. The story really brought you into Katniss' world. One of my favorite elements is the characters. The characters are represented so well that I felt like I really knew them.
CHARECTER PROFILES

Katniss Everdeen

Katniss is one of the lead characters in this story. She bravely volunteered for her sister Prim (see later) at the reaping. The Reaping is where they chooses on Teenage Girl and Boy from each District to fight in the Hunger Games. Scared Prim will die Katniss volunteers herself risking her life.
District: 12
Skills: Hunting. Especially good with a bow and arrow.
Weakness: Not very friendly.
Allies: Peeta her fellow tribute from District 12, Rue another tribute in the Hunger Games, and Gale her best friend since forever.
Katniss lead the revolution against the Capitol and was known as the, "Mockingjay." She started the revolution simply by pulling out a handful of berries. Of course, it wasn't as simple as that because those berries were poisoned. Katniss threatened to eat them along with Peeta if they didn't pull them both out of the arena. They were the last people there and if they ate the berries at the same time and died together there would be no victor of the Hunger Games. So, of course the Game Makers pulled them out of the arena. This started the revolution. Districts didn't want the Capitol pushing them around anymore and when they saw Katniss they had hope. Hope that if they rebelled they could be free. Free from starvation, beatings, and danger. The Capitol tried to act like everything was fine, but it was not. Living Victors were forced to go back into the arena for the Quarter Quell. Many were unhappy because the stated that after you won the Games you will be promised peace. And going back to the arena is certainly not peace. Most go crazy after the Hunger Games. After all if you kill all throughs people you are certainly going to be messed up in some sort of way. The rebellion lasted long, but the Districts won!

Gale 

Gale is Katniss' best friend since they were young. They both live in extreme poverty and are both trying to support their families. They met in the woods hunting and from then on they were irrespirable. Gale's nickname for Katniss is Catnip when they first met Gale accidentally called her Catnip. After the Hunger Games everything changes between Gale and Katniss. Having to survive Katniss and Peeta had to pretend they were "Star Crossed Lovers" to get more sponsors when they were cold and hungry. Gale feels a bit betrayed and is mad. After the Quarter Quell the revolution begins Gale fights for the rebels (the good side). Even when he is fighting along side Katniss things are still a bit rocky. After the war ends he moves to District 2 and gets a job there pretty much betraying Katniss and her family. 

District: 12

Skills: Hunting. 

Job: Works in mines. Later, anchor in District 2. 

Allies: Katniss 

Peeta

Peeta is the male Tribute from District 12. He is a kind sweet character that is easily likable. Peeta is the son of the Baker which means he has plenty of food and that he is not starving like Katniss and Gale. Peeta has always had feelings for Katniss and told the crowd during the interview before the Hunger Games. Angry and annoyed Katniss comes to tackle him after the interview. Katniss is annoyed by about anyone and is easily annoyed by sweet Peeta. During the Games Katniss finds him a bit more likable, but still doesn't care for him. Needing more sponsors they pretend they are star crossed lovers and boy does it work. After the berries Snow threatens to kill them and the people they love if they don't pretend to love each other. Why would Snow do this? Well it's little bit complicated, but essentially Snow thinks that if they make everyone believe that they loved each other so much that if one of them didn't live they would die people will give up the whole though of rebelling. They try their hardest, but nobody believes them. So they have to announce marriage which never happens (fortunately) due to the Quarter Quell. When Katniss blows up the arena Peeta was taking to the Capitol were they tampered with his head. They made him believe things that he did not believe. He broadcasted things on Live TV that told people to stop the War and that Snow was the best. The rebels wanted him back and stole him from the Capitol and took him to their base in 13. They tried and tried to reset Peeta's actual thoughts it was fixed, but it had some side affects. At first Peeta didn't know what to believe or what not to believe. Eventually, Peeta was in decent health and moved backed into Victor's Village and baked and painted there. 

District: 12

Skills: Strong. 

Haymitch 

Katniss and Peeta's mentor for the Hunger Games. He is often drunk and is not a very good mentor, but sometimes he can be helpful. He won in the second Quarter Quell. Haymitch knows the game very well and at the Quarter Quell he is able to get Katniss and Peeta a lot of allies. 

Effie

Preps everything for Katniss and Peeta. Very strict and is a perfectionist. 

Rue 

A sweet little girl reaped for the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss' best friend the arena. Her death makes Katniss' mad and sad. Rue was very clever and knew how to be undetected. She was so young and reminded Katniss of Prim, her sister.  

District: 11

Skills: Clever

Weaknesses: Young and small

Thresh

A Tribute from District 11. Silent and refused to talk during his interview. One of remaining 4 in the Hunger Games. 

District: 11

Skills: Strong

Clove 

A Career (A tribute who trains in a school for the Hunger Games then volunteer at the reaping) who was in the Remaining 5.

District: 2 

Cato 

A Career who is known to me the leader of the Career Pack. In remaining 3. 

Killed by: Katniss

District: 2

Marvel 

A Career who killed Rue.

Glimmer

In Carrer Pack. 

Killed by: Tracker Jackers/Katniss 

District: 1 

"Foxface" 

Part of the Remaining 5 Foxface was a clever witty girl.

Finnick

Participated in Quarter Quell. Finnick is good with water and is known to carry a trident. A Capitol Sweetheart he is the youngest victor. He fights in the revolution and sadly dies. 

District: 4 

Skills: Good with Trident 

Mags 

Elderly woman who volunteers for Annie (another victor) at the Quarter Quell Reaping. Annie, who has gone mad is not in shape to go back into the arena. Mags dies a hero's death when she kills herself to help the Survival of Katniss, Peeta, and Finnick. 

District: 4

Killed by: Poisonous fog. 

Johanna Mason

A fierce killer, She has no mercy. 

Victor of the Hunger Games. Tricked tributes into thinking she was a weak crippled girl. And towards the end they found she was a EXCELLENT killer. When she had to go back into the arena she was VERY mad. She talked trash about the Capitol. When Katniss asks why she does that she remarks "... they can't hurt me there's nothing I love."  After Katniss blows up the arena Johanna is saved and brought to 13. Seriously injured she has to stay in the Hospital for weeks.
District: 7
Skills: Doesn't care about anything or anyone.

Beete 

Smart and intelligent Beete won his first Hunger Games by making an electrical trap. At the Quarter Quell he attempts to make another trap along with Johanna, Finnick, Katniss, and Peeta their alliance.  After the Quarter Quell he is taken to 13 and there he finds out how to get Katniss' Mockingjay statements out to the world. Katniss is the face of the Revolution, but Beete is the brain. 

District: 3 

Skills: Smart 

Wiress

Not able to speak very well Wiress uses just the words tik Tok to save Peeta, Katniss, Beete, and Johanna. How? Well when they put it together they found out that the arena is a clock. Each horrifying thing starts at a new hour. 

District: 3

Gloss & Cashmere 

Carrer sibblings. They are fierce. 

District: 1

Enobaria 

Fierce creepy girl. Enobaria took out her front teeth and replaced them with fangs. 

District: 2

Brutus 

District: 2

Prim

Katniss' sister. Kind and sweet Prim is a lovable character. When her name was called for the Hunger Games, Katniss afraid she wouldn't survive volunteered for her. Prim unlike Katniss hard hunting and anything Katniss liked. She started training to me a healer like her mom though. 

Except for Gale, Effie, and Prim all these character have participated in at least one Hunger Games. Some of them who participated in two.
